Suspicious Activity on Delaware State University Campus

Dover, DE – During the week of move-in for students at Delaware State University, there was a report of a suspicious person, around Midnight August 27, 2023, and students on campus received an alert to shelter in place.

Another alert was sent out by campus security at 12:20 AM of the same night because there was a report  to stay clear of the area around the Education and Humanities Building as well as the Bank of America Building. These two buildings are located near some student dormitories.

A Freshman named Janiya Koger was affected by this incident. Koger mentioned that she “was unable to order food” due to this incident. But she did mention that she appreciates how “quickly and properly the incident was settled” by campus Public Safety

Another student on campus, a sophomore named Nasira A., mentioned she “felt unsafe” about the incident and calls for “more enforced safety”. 

It was not until around 1:40 AM students were alerted, that the shelter in place alert has been lifted and to travel around with caution.

Delaware State University Police Department recommends that if you are affected by an incident, you should report it to them directly or by calling (302) 857-7911*4444. The Department also has a confidential tip line that can be reached by dialing (302) 857- 7918 or by filling out a Silent Witness Form
