A Bright Future For The New Hornets On Campus

Zavian Johnson

The freshman year of college is a scary, but exciting time for most individuals. New students are finding their footing in a brand-new environment and things can get complicated along the way. But everyone here is on the same mission- Get a degree in their respective fields.

Me with freshman student Kristin Sims

I had the pleasure of speaking with freshman students Kristin Sims and Brandon Batts about their experiences here at DSU.

Kristin Sims from Houston, Texas, majors in public relations and advertising, and wants to do something with graphic design. She plays on the Women’s Lacrosse Team and her hobbies include photography, graphic design, drawing, and painting. When asked about her college experience one week in on a scale of 1-10, she said, “8 ½. Welcome week was pretty cool. It was kind of like a rough patch for the first few classes, but I’m getting used to it.”

Me with freshman student Brandon Batts

Brandon Batts, who comes from Washington D.C. majors in sports management with a minor in business administration. He plans on being a sports accountant when he is finished at Del State. A 9.5 is what he rated his college experience so far on a scale of 1-10. “Not enough parties yet, but it’s been great and I like it here.” His hobbies include reading manga and his goals are to network with people and keep a 3.5 GPA.

These two students have big goals in mind and it’s only a matter of time until they get everything they have dreamed of!
