Food Pantry at Delaware State University

Tamia Gregory

Located in room 112 in Memorial Hall, the Department of Public and Allied Health Sciences has a food pantry available for students to access foodstuffs and personal hygiene items they may need during their time on campus. The food pantry is open five days a week: 11 am – 2 pm on Mondays and Fridays, 9 am – 1:30 pm and 3-4:30 on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and 3-7 on Wednesdays.

In the pantry, students can find both perishable and non-perishable items. Some of these include peanut butter, brownie mix, frozen and canned vegetables, ice cream, pasta, fresh produce, toothpaste, sanitary products, toilet paper, shampoo and conditioner, and more.

First-time visitors are required to complete a form with their names, D100 numbers, and the classification. Students are permitted one visit per week. Next, you are free to shop around for whatever you need from the available supply. Upon checkout, patrons must place their items on a scale and document the total weight of foodstuff and/or the total weight of hygiene products that they have taken.

Student employee Kadiatu Mansaray, a junior at DSU, works in the pantry on Tuesdays and Thursdays. She says, “there is a limit of 30 pounds for each visitor, which is heavy, so you are entitled to whatever you can manage to carry on your way out.”

Campus Chaplain Pamela Adams advises the pantry and can be reached here with any questions.
