Delaware State University will premiere the Sharon Baker documentary film United We Are Dreaming, which focuses on the challenges of Dreamers in this country, at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16 in the second floor Parlor A of the Martin Luther King Jr. Student Center on campus.
The screening is free and open to the public.
The 52-minute documentary that looks at the life circumstances of five Dreamers, adults now 22 to 40 years of age, who were brought to the US as small children by undocumented parents. Two of the featured Dreamers completed their undergraduate education at Delaware State University.
The film focuses on these Dreamers’ challenges as children and in their efforts to pursue a college education in this country, their frustrations over not having a legal status in the U.S. – the only country that they know as their home – and the need for immigration reform.
The filmmaker Sharon Baker – who has previous won an Emmy for previous work – will be in attendance and available talk with Mass Comm students and others about her work in putting together this documentary.
