Season Recap
The 2021-2022 NBA season was exciting for NBA fans. Nikola Jokic won his second MVP. The Warriors won the championship and Stephen Curry received his first finals MVP.
Last season saw young players like Ja Morant, Jayson Tatum, and Luka Doncic emerge as the next top talents. Teams like the Celtics and Mavericks were able to get over the hump in the playoffs and advanced. Injuries were a huge thing last season as teams like the Lakers and Clippers had injuries to their star players that hurt their seasons.
These off-season teams made notable roster changes like the Hawks, Timberwolves, and Jazz made dramatic changes to their roster.
Teams trade for players they think fit best for their teams, whether it’s a role player or a superstar.
Notable Off-Season Moves:
Christian Wood to the Mavericks
The Maverick traded for Christian Wood, a big man who averaged 17 points and 10 rebounds in 68 games for the Rockets. This move not only gives Luka Doncic help but also fills the big-man role that the Mavericks needed. The Mavericks are looking for Wood to help a Mavericks team that made the conference finals previously.
Rudy Gobert to the Timberwolves
The Timberwolves traded for three-time defensive player of the year, Rudy Gobert. This trade provides the Timberwolves with more rim protection, and with fellow center Karl Towns, the Timberwolves look for the duo to be a huge success.
Dejounte Murray to the Hawks
The Hawks traded for all-star guard Dejounte Murray who’s known for his playmaking and defense. This trade provides the Hawks with another playmaking guard who would take pressure off Trae Young offensively. He would also provide a defensive presence and would take on tough defensive assignments.
Donovan Mitchell to the Cavaliers
The Cavs traded for 5-time all-star Donovan Mitchell. The Jazz who previously traded their other all-star this off-season trade Mitchell, are continuing to reset their roster. This trade makes the Cavaliers an instant contender, as they were a young team last year that began to rise with the addition of Mitchell, they look to make their mark this season.
With four all-stars being traded to young contending teams. You can look forward to seeing the rise of teams like the Cavs and the Timberwolves.
As all NBA fans know, superstar trades aren’t always the most impactful. So look out for more trades during the season.
