DESU Radio was officially rebranded as DESU Radio “The Nest” on August 31. 2022. The radio station received a new logo, new name, and new vibe.
The managers are: Charles Anyanwu (Senior, Station Manager and Mister DESU Radio), Xamara Coleman (Sophomore, Program Director and Miss DESU Radio), William Akin IV (Senior, Assistant Station Manager), Saniya Gay (Sophomore, Social Media Specialist) and the Station Advisor is Dr. Ava Perrine.
The radio station’s focuses are advertising for all campus-related events, promoting student inclusivity, spreading student awareness, and always showcasing DSU spirit through a family environment, director and Miss DESU Radio, Xamara Coleman says.
Xamara Coleman stated “We plan to achieve these goals through our radio station programs, podcasting, sports broadcasting, and interviews.”
Some of their new podcasts include Buzz Club, a podcast mimicking Breakfast Club, the College Experience podcast about college student readiness and expanding in career) , and Women of the Yard, a podcast about the lives of DSU women and advice on topics ranging from relationships to business.
DESU Radio would also like to host a couple events, if time permits, with a focus on music showcasing.
The managers recently hosted a radio station meeting on September 15, 2022, that had a great turn out!
“We received a lot of new members, and had a guest performance by Vintage (@thenew.vintage_) on Instagram , provided by Class Records (@classxrecords)” says Xamara.
Xamara says, “Prior, we had a great turn out of students at the Org Fair hosted on September 1st during “I Love DSU” Week. We hosted organization interviews of orgs such as the Diehards, AKAs, The Godbrothers, Honors College, and more.”
The radio station had the chance to give out three grub hub gift cards in their raffle, where people had to follow the page and take a picture with an inflatable guitar for entry.
DESU Radio was also very happy to cover MOCA’s car wash event on 9/17/22 . Xamara says that the DESU Radio looks forward to collaborating on more events with organizations as far as broadcasting and more.
