 What is Artificial Intelligence?

Artificial intelligence (AI) deals with the simulation of human intelligence in machines. These machines are programmed to think and act like humans. Artificial intelligence in its entirety is based on the assumption that the process of human thoughts can be mechanized. With advancements in AI, ordinary work and technical work will be made better and simpler for society.

Artificial intelligence was first designed in 1955 by Allen Newell and Herbert A. Simon. The term “artificial intelligence” was first coined by John McCarthy, who is regarded as the father of AI. There are four types of artificial intelligence: Reactive Machines, Limited Memory, Theory of Mind, and Self-Awareness. Throughout the years, artificial intelligence has made immense progress with its advancements in various forms of technology. This kind of technology can do things that humans can’t even fathom, which makes our jobs a lot easier.

The Dangers of Artificial Intelligence

Many would argue that artificial intelligence would be the inevitable downfall of our nation as a whole simply because of their fear of AI being on the rise. Vast advancements on artificial intelligence could mean many negative things pertaining to the human race.

According to analyticsindiamag.com, world renowned theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking feared the impact that AI might leave on humanity. Hawking said “The development of full artificial intelligence could spell the end of the human race. It would take off on its own, and re-design itself at an ever-increasing fate.”

According to an article on CNBC.com, Tesla owner and CEO Elon Musk also has his own reservations on the evolution of AI. Musk said, “I am really quite close, to cutting the edge in AI and it scares the hell out of me,”. He followed that with “It’s very capable of vastly more than almost anyone knows, and the rate of improvement is exponential.”

Many believe that artificial intelligence is extremely dangerous; however, study statistics show that AI is responsible for many benefits that we have and many more benefits to come. For example, according to an article on LEFTRONIC.com, AI technology could enhance business productivity by up to 40%, more than 80% of customer interactions will be done without humans by 2020, which leaves less of a hassle on humans, and, three quarters of executives believe AI will help their companies move into new businesses. Artificial intelligence will ultimately be responsible for the progression of our global society.

Another fear of AI is the fear of losing jobs. According to an article on Forbes.com, a study done at Cornell and Hebrew University of Jerusalem suggested that seeing tasks and jobs taken away from humans by machines has a “demoralizing” effect on human workers. Although the goal of the study was to help the employees get comfortable with collaborating with the robots, the humans were more stressed than anything and felt the need to compete with the robot.

Artificial Intelligence is In Fact Beneficial

Although the fears of artificial intelligence (technophobia) have a great amount of validity to them, the benefits outweigh the fears by far. AI is responsible for handling necessary things such as language translations, weather predictions, energy optimization, etc.Artificial intelligence is responsible for the quickness and efficiency of completing many tasks such as paying for groceries, instant messaging, checking for plagiarism, depositing checks, and so much more! With the vast advancements of artificial intelligence, the world as a whole will continue to prosper exponentially.

One area that AI is especially helpful is the medical field. Healthcare is something that we all need, and AI makes the process a lot easier. Artificial intelligence was made to be able to understand and manipulate vast amounts of machine-readable data generated in healthcare. Data is more accessible to healthcare providers through artificial intelligence so that they may be able to give their patients the mo
