NABJ and PRSSA Hold Interest Meetings for the Spring Semester

NABJ and PRSSA Delaware State’s Chapters are beginning to make their mark on campus once again. The National Association for Black Journalist and Public Relations Student Society of America are both elite and admired national communication organizations. Both organizations have a purpose to connect and bring network opportunities to people of color. They have chapters all over the nation at different businesses and college campuses.

DSU’s NABJ chapter is under new advisement and Dr. Edelin, who is the newly appointed Chair, is now overseeing the club. Dr. Awodiya is the advisor over PRSSA and has high anticipations for both organizations this semester.

When asked what his hopes for this upcoming semester are, Dr. Awodiya stated, “I am hoping that students participate in both organizations and take advantage of the opportunities awaiting them. NABJ students especially should compete in the research competition. Students should gain knowledge in the field and prepare to utilize the skills they learn.”

This semester NABJ and PRSSA will be holding their interest meetings here on campus and are looking for exciting, dedicated, and engaged students to be a part of the chapters. Students with majors in mass communications and media are encouraged to join to make connections through networking, engage in community service and gain further knowledge on the communication field.

Students from DSU’s chapters of both organizations have been to several nationwide events, like NASCAR and NABJ conferences. These events are most time offered to members only, but in certain situations any DSU students can help volunteer or participate. NABJ and PRSSA also holds “Speaker Series”, where professionals in the communications field come and give motivational advice to students on campus.

Both organizations are special to mass communication students here on campus, the unite students from all different backgrounds and prepare them for what is ahead to come. Becoming members of one of these organizations makes that person also a national member, it can open doors and merge people from all over the country together who work in media.

“I honestly should have joined PRSSA when I first came to DSU. Being exposed to other educated students that know all about media and different skills within communications could help me learn,” says Nicolette Baylor. Nicolette is a junior and Mass Communication major with a concentration in Public Relations. “I’m honestly excited to join and see what activities we get involved in this semester”.

PRSSA will be holding their interest meeting Tuesday January 21st and NABJ will be holding their interest meeting Thursday January 23rd, both during common hour at 11am.
