On Wednesday, January 1st, 2020, Delaware State University officially welcomed its 12th president, Dr. Tony Allen, Ph.D. Dr. Allen succeeds former Delaware State University president, Dr. Wilma Mishoe, who announced her retirement in September 2019.
Dr. Allen served as provost for DSU for about three years since his arrival in 2017 prior to formally becoming the university’s vice president in 2019. Dr. Allen is ready and excited to step into his new leadership position.
Prior to arriving Delaware State University, Dr. Allen worked in Global Marketing & Corporate Affairs for Bank of America. According to an article written on Complete College America, he also worked for former Vice President Joseph Biden as a special assistant and personal speech writer.
Dr. Allen is an Alumnus of the University of Delaware, where he obtained his bachelor’s degree in political science as well as his doctorate in urban affairs. Dr. Allen has written articles in many periodicals and publications, including (but not limited to) the National Urban League’s annual journal.
Although Dr. Allen worked in the corporate world, he is no stranger to his academic ties. Being so passionate about academics and the success of the students of DSU, Allen stated that one of his main goals is to “reduce the students’ average time to graduate” according to an article written on the Delaware State University news.
Although this is Dr. Allen’s first run as president of the school, he seems nothing short of eager to rise to the challenge. With his determination to enhance Delaware State University in its entirety, Dr. Allen will have a very successful and long-lasting tenure.
