As the semester takes off so do the activities here on the illustrious campus of Delaware State University. One of them being the musical of the 2019 spring semester.
These musicals are performed by Delaware State University students, who audition for the roles. This semester the musical will be “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare Abridged.”
The auditions for this play were held on January 20th and 21st from 5pm-7pm. During the auditions, attendees learned a little bit about the plays that are put on every semester in the EH Theatre.
Although these plays are opened for the entire student body to audition for, the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences put on these plays. They have been putting on a musical every semester for as long as any of the students involved in the Theatre Department now can remember.
Last semester the Colleges put on their rendition of “Beauty in the Beast.”

As the students get ready to audition for this semester’s musical they were asked how do they feel before they audition for a play. Senior, Shae Ross, says, “I’m usually nervous and excited before I audition for a musical. But I’m also curious to see who else is auditioning and for what parts as well.” Shae has been a participant in the College’s musical’s since her Freshman year in 2015.
“When you have so many different people auditioning for a musical it is hard to keep your confidence in the part that you are auditioning for, says Senior, Asaiyah Williams. She concluded that “ I pray about it and remain humble. If the part is for me, I’ll get it. If not, another person who is more fitting will and one that fits me more will open up. Remaining positive is always the key.”
The plays that the College puts on are usually performed three times over the course of a two – day period. A Thursday night, Friday matne and Friday night performance.
This years play dates have yet to be released, but be on the lookout for them in the months to come.
