Past Sunday on October 21, 2018 faculty, students, family, and friends experienced an amazing ceremony on the campus of Delaware State University – homecoming coronation.

What is Coronation?

Coronation is a traditional event that takes place in the Education and Humanities Theatre, honoring the Royal Vision.

Now the Royal Vision was really creative in its theme. They honored the late Michael Jackson by recreating and implementing his classic music video ‘Remember The Time’.

Before the Royal Vision was shown dressed in their elegant gowns and suits, the dance group Hidden Vanity brought their talents to the table while excelling in doing the actual dance moves that were used in Jackson’s music video. Let’s talk about amazing talent.

Following that, Kings and Queens of respected organizations on the campus were granted a moment of shine on stage; the women were in black gowns while the men had on black suits.

But the moment that everyone had been waiting for was at the very end, when each individual of the Royal Vision was presented on stage to the audience, including

  • Mr. and Miss Freshman – Aaron Pradier and Kaia Grey;
  • Mr. and Miss Sophomore – Ashlee Davis and Dwayne Branch;
  • Mr. and Miss Junior – Alimamy Conteh and Tahjah warner;
  • Mr. and Miss Senior – Kashief Williams and Takia Graves;
  • Mr and Miss Delaware State University – Ralphael Jason-Morgan and Olivia Moncrieffe

When Mr. Senior – Kashief Williams was being honored, his favorite quote by Inky Johnson was mentioned: “Commitment is staying true to what you said you would do long after the mood that you have said it has left.”

This is something that all people can live by, because when the tragedies of life seem to present themselves to us, we often want to give up. But in the midst of whatever is happening, we must stay committed to the purpose.

Beautiful gifts were also given to Mr. and Miss. Delaware State University by President Dr. Wilma Mishoe, and Provost, Tony Allen.

How was all of this pulled off in such short notice? According to Olvia, Miss Delaware State University –  feeling slightly nervous, for she never attended coronation before said, “Practice took two weeks long and it was very tiring, I wanted my Coronation to be the best there ever was. After long nights of laughter and arguments, Coronation was a success!”

To say that they practiced for two weeks, everyone who participated in making this event possible did a phenomenal job.

Mr. Ivy and Mr. Honors

Two exclusive kings, Marco Robinson serving as Mr. Ivy representing Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and  and Omar Jackson as Mr. Honors representing the Honors program had great words to say.

 Marco Robinson: “I had really fun, I’m happy that I was able to be apart of such a groundbreaking moment at DSU!”

Omar Jackson: “Coronation was fun and exciting. I never thought that I would be able to experience something like this.”
