On Tuesday, September 11th, 2018 Delaware State University’s NABJ Student Chapter had its first Interest Meeting in the TV station located in the ETV building. It was a joint interest meeting with the renamed DESU-TV station.

One big aspect of The National Association of Black Journalists is to build connections in the media industry for people of color. The Student Chapter of Delaware State University also believes this same philosophy. Their plan is to properly train the Mass Communications students of DelState to leave this university with bright and stable futures.
During the meeting, the board spoke about the meaning of this organization and the previous NABJ conference that the organization attended last year.

2018 N.A.B.J. Conference Attendees: Latayla Branson, Kaylynn Pride, and Kai Gliford
President Latayla Branson spoke on her experience at this year’s NABJ conference and she said, “NABJ is always an insightful experience but this time the impact was even greater because this was my last conference before I graduate in the spring. Not only did I take advantage of the amazing networking opportunities that NABJ conferences always have but I was lucky enough to get to see Tyler Perry and other huge names in the entertainment industry and receive the advice they gave about getting ahead in life, which was an overall humbling experience. ”
The fee for student membership is $43, and it is valid for the entire school year. The up and coming NABJ networking event that they are planning to attend is the Dover Speedway NASCAR event on October 6th through the 7th. They are currently working on raising money to attend this year’s NABJ conference in Miami, Florida.
The first General Staff meeting is September 27th, 2018. The organization will host its meetings every last Thursday of the month. The N.A.B.J. is currently looking for a Treasurer, Corresponding and Recording Secretary.
