On Sunday, March 25th, 2017 in the Martin Luther King Jr. Student Center Parlors at Delaware State University was the 3rd Annual Margaret Oliver’s First Lady’s Hats and Gloves Tea. Ladies Sing the Blues was the theme as they came from across the state of Delaware to celebrate an evening of elegance and to honor three amazing women in the community:
- Beatrice “Bebe” Coker
- Mable R. Morrison
- Esthelda “Stell” Parker- Selby

The night was a fun-filled one as there was a silent shoe auction, as well as a Tea Hat museum, created by student interns of the Office of University Events and Ceremonies. Senior Hospitality and Tourism Major, Miss Alisha Vera of the decorating committee said “I had a great time making the hats and shoes and I’m just glad that so many of the women appreciated the time we took. This is my third-time volunteering with the event and it just keeps getting better and better.”
The funds from the auction, as well as the ticket sales, will go towards supporting the Honors Student Association whose Director is Dr. Dawn Lott, as this serves as one of their annual fundraisers. For more photos of the fun head over to the Delaware State University website.
