Dover, DE-Delaware State students looking to join a positive, uplifting club to take a break from the hardships of school and life can find such a club right on their own campus. The Fellowship of Christian Athletes club, otherwise known as FCA, is an interdenominational Christian ministry that combines faith and sports. The club has officially started meeting on Delaware State University’s main campus in Dover, Delaware.
Student-athletes from various sports teams at Delaware State University have joined to form a leadership team for the club that meets every Monday night from 7pm-8pm in the Jenkins Hall meeting room. Members of the club come together to have fun through fellowship, share in some tasty treats, all while learning more about their faith.
“For me,” said leadership team member, Hannah Shields, “FCA means having fun while also growing in your faith. It is awesome to have a group of people that are so much fun to be around and aren’t afraid to show their faith in God!”
The FCA club aims to create an atmosphere where students can find temporary relief from the hardships life brings their way. It is a judgment-free environment in a relaxed and casual setting where people feel welcomed by friendly faces.
“FCA is important to me,” stated Micaela Cummings, another leadership team member, “because it is an opportunity to meet with people of the same values as me every week. It has given me genuine friends that help to keep me accountable and shows me that I am not alone in being a college athlete (and) student while living out my faith!”
The leaders of FCA, along with State Director of FCA for Delaware, Nick Richmond, stress that anyone can attend the meetings and that the club is not exclusively for athletes. Anyone thinking about attending who is not an athlete or has a friend that is not an athlete, can still attend, because the leaders are insisting it is, “the best night of the week.”
