Lady Hornets 87-86 Win Against Howard University

By: Rick Jackson

While Delaware State University students have been relaxing for winter break, the women’s basketball team has been hard at work posting a 3-5 record.

January 11th was the team’s most satisfying win in an intense game capped off by the game winning layup by Lady Hornet forward Amber Bogard at the buzzer to defeat DSU’s rival Howard University, 87-86.

Head coach Barbara Burgess shared with reporters after the game that the play which led to the game winning layup was supposed to go to point guard N’Kayah Kersey.

But the play was switched and redesigned to go to Bogard.

This caught the defense off guard and left her wide open for the score.

Bogard told reporters after the game, “This [win] means a lot for us. We been working hard and we played team basketball today.”

Bogard finished the game 6-12 in field goals with six rebounds.

Be sure to come out and support the Lady Hornets this upcoming Saturday, January 23rd, when they will face North Carolina Central.
