Dr. Walter M. Kimbrough, president of Dillard University will be the DSU commencement speaker at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 13 in the Memorial Hall Gymnasium. Dr. Kimbrough was recognized in 2009 by Diverse Issues in Higher Edu-cation one of “25 To Watch.”
He was included among Ebony Mag-azine’s 2010 list of doers and influ-encers in the African American com-munity, joining a group that included President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle, Tom Joyner, Tyler Perry, Richard Parsons and others.
He was cited in 2010 by Bachelor Degree.com as one of the 25 college president that should be followed on Twitter (@HipHopPrez). In 2013, NBC News/The Griot.com’s also listed him among 100 African Americans making history.
His rocketing higher education career reached new pinnacles in 2004 when at age 37 he was hired as presi-dent of Philander Smith College in Lit-tle Rock, Ark., as well as in 2012 when he was named as the 7th president of Dillard University in New Orleans, La.
The Dillard president has been rec-ognized for his research and writings on HBCUs and African American men in college. He has also been noted in articles by The Chronicle of Higher Educa-tion, CASE Currents, and Arkansas Life for his active use of social media to engage students.
He is the author of the book Black Greek 101: The Culture, Customs and Challenges of Black Fraternities and Sororities.
