As the 2013-2014 MEAC Basketball season gets underway, both DSU teams look to beat the odds and have a strong season, as they work their way towards a conference title.
The Lady Hornets, who finished last season with an overall 10-21 record, ended the season with a 63-28 loss in the second round of the MEAC tournament to No. 1 seeded Hampton University.
The Lady Hornets, led by Head Coach Tamika Louis, are projected to finish 10th in the MEAC race. Defending MEAC tournament champs Hampton are predicted again to finish in first place.
The Men’s Basketball team finished last season with a 15-18 overall record. DSU lost to MEAC Champs, North Carolina A&T in the semi-finals of the tournament. This season they are predicted to finish in the middle of the MEAC race at 7th place. Norfolk State has been picked to finish 1st, despite losing in the quarter finals last season.
The Men’s Hornet team returns with their top scorer, Senior Casey Walker, while also losing two key players, Tahj Tate and Marcus Oliver.
The Lady Hornets started the 2013-2014 season with a tough 97-67 loss. The Men’s Basketball team tipped off the season with an impressive 107-48 win over Cairn University.
