DSU Men’s Basketball poised to win with Veteran Leadership
By Shaun Mattocks
The DSU Men’s Basketball season is approaching with the first game on November 9th against Carin University. Although the team has lost two of their main scorers, Tahj Tate and Amere May, Coach Jackson and his team are focused and ready.
Casey Walker, a four-year starter, has no plans on holding back this season and plans to play his heart out every game. “ My individual goal is to compete for the MEAC player of the year award, and to make all MEAC team. However, my main goal is to win the MEAC Championship and get into the NCAA tournament,” Walker says.
Walker then went on to talk about a season highlight for him. He says, “The team I can’t wait to play this year is Oklahoma State. It’s the biggest stage you can play on and possibly against the best player in college basketball, Marcus Smart.”
The team is in for a long journey this year and plans to rally around some of their veteran guys such as Walker, Tyshawn Bell, Albert Thomas and Kendal Gray. If the team wants to complete their goal in winning the MEAC these four guys must come together to get the job done.
